When asked, your local Phone Company can place a “PIC Freeze” on your account. This will prevent a long distance company from changing your long distance service without your authorization. If you have a PIC Freeze on your account, and you request service from a provider through Cory Communications, please call your local phone company to remove it so that we may change your service.
Do I have to call my local phone company to switch my long distance service?
Probably not. In most cases, your new company will handle the switch, unless you have a PIC Freeze (Block) on your phone. In that case, contact us at Cory Communications to discuss.
Do I have to call my current Long Distance Company to cancel?
Generally your previous provider is notified by your local telecom vendor and cancels your service as soon as the new service is in place, without your involvement. It can still be beneficial to notify your former long distance carrier to be sure. We recommend calling your previous long distance carrier, only after your service is switched.
How will this affect my Local Phone Service?
Your local phone service will not be affected by your switching to a new long distance provider. All of your calling features such as Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voicemail, *69 etc. will not be affected. These types of features are services provided by your local phone carrier.
When will my new Long Distance plan become active?
The switch usually take about 3-10 business days to complete. Once you have signed up with your new plan through Cory Communications, your new long distance carrier will notify your local phone company.
How do I verify my long distance has been switched?
You may call 1-700-555-4141 to see who your current provider is. This call must be made from one of your own lines. A voice will answer with the name of your long distance carrier.
Are there significant differences between long distance companies?
In sound quality and clarity, no! Ever since the telecommunications industry was deregulated in the 1980′s, long distance has become a commodity. Most companies use the same fiber optic networks to transport their calls. While some long distance companies claim that their service is of higher quality, there is actually very little (if any) difference between the carriers.
In service, yes! Companies have different practices in billing and customer service. Cory Communications has selected companies that are known for clear, convenient billing and outstanding customer service.
