With an increase in the number of cyberattacks, hackers are finding new ways to get into confidential places. Data breaches are in the headlines on a consistent basis and this has pushed the conversation about network security to new levels. Security-as-a-service is an option for efficient, effective and more cost-conscious security management.
451 Research completed a survey recently and found that 82 percent of respondents said they devote a large number of resources to their security products, spending between 20 and 60 hours a week to procure and manage security products.
Three-quarters of the respondents in the survey said they have three to five full-time employees managing security. Almost 39 percent of the IT budget is therefore dedicated to network security, according to 451 Research.
The survey also found that spending in this area is growing twice as fast as any other area in IT. And given the innovation on the side of the cyber attackers, it’s going to take more research (and money) to stay ahead of them, which might not be plausible as most of the time, companies are just trying to react quickly when they’ve been breached.
There is a better option than the traditional on-premise model and it’s called security-as-a service.
Security-as-a-service, which some also refer to as SECaaS, is part of the conversation now because of its accessibility, ease, and simplicity. For companies that have used traditional on-premise security options, this ease of use is helping to streamline processes and create a more efficient workflow.
On-premise models tend to be more complex and difficult for company employees to use. Plus, the user of the on-premise model is responsible for maintenance and upgrades, not to mention whatever extra hardware is required. With a cloud-based service, the vendor takes care of everything, freeing up valuable time.
72 percent of the respondents surveyed said their preference is for security-as-a-service, with only 19 percent who put on-premise solutions as their preferred choice and nine percent who favored MSSP for security management. The ease of use of security-as-a-service as led to a rapid increase in this as a preferred solution.
